Student Workbook
*Log Book and Underwater Slate (only required for Open Water
Certification).
Equipment Required:
Students Must Provide Mask, Fins, and Snorkel, Dive boots,
BCD, Regulator Tank and air fills.
Sound Dive Center will rent this gear and air fills to students
for $65 if students do not have this equipment. If you have
your own gear, it must be modern (less than 10 years old)
and in properly maintained and operational condition (annual
within the last year, documentation required).
Please pre-arrange with the instructor, to use personal
gear.
Course Water Prerequisites:
1. Swim 200 yards non-stop
2. Drown proof for 10 minutes
3. Swim 50 feet underwater on one breath
Course
Goals:
Introduction to Scuba Diving and the underwater science
associated with being able to safely scuba dive.
Labs
will introduce the student to the basic function and use
of equipment in the controlled environment of the swimming
pool. This course will properly prepare the student for
NAUI Scuba Diver Open Water Certification Requirements (Optional).
Homework represents 30% of your grade and is determined
by the completion of the required workbook.
Daily, Quizzes represent 33% of the total grade and include;
in-class, multiple choice, quizzes. Lab and Lecture Attendance
represent 33% of your grade. Students are not permitted
to miss any classes. In the event your scheduled class must
be missed, you must make arrangements to make up class and
pool session. All missed classes must be made-up. Make-ups
can be coordinated with the instructor.
The Final written Exam represents the remaining 33% of your
grade. The final exam is a 100 question, comprehensive,
multiple choice, test
Grading Scale:
A 90-100%
B 80-89%
C 70-79%
F 0-69%
